Our Swimming Club
Wimborne Wagtails is a local club offering swimming, water therapy, Galas and social activities to anyone with a physical or learning disability.
We are open to members of all ages and their family and friends.
Our pool volunteers are made up of 5 trained swimming teachers and 7 swim helpers, who provide assistance in the water. Subject to availability, they aim to attend most sessions, apart from bank holidays weekends. Carers/parents should be prepared to offer support in the pool themselves at every session.
Our members have varying disabilities including cerebral palsy, heart conditions, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, post-operative conditions, autism, Down’s syndrome, learning difficulties and epilepsy.
We provide a supervised, safe and friendly environment for disabled people to swim and improve their health.
We swim every Saturday 11.15 am to 1pm at QE Leisure Centre, Wimborne as part of their public disabled session. From January 2020 this session will be hired privately by the Club, for exclusive use of its members. This does not include sessions that fall on a bank holiday weekend.
We are very lucky to have Dame Annette Brooke (former Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole 2001 –2015) as our honorary President.
